How to come from Athens by car

You can travel with car from Athens to Hydra island in approximately 3 hours and less, by following Attiki Road and then the national road Athens-Corinth. After the Isthmus you turn left towards Epidavros (Corinth Exit B Epidavros)

Drive for 30 minutes and reach the intersection towards Epidavros. You will also see quide posts for Poros or Spetses. Turn right to the intersection and under the bridge.

You follow the newly constructed road watching out for the sign writing Poros. There, turn left to Poros and reach Galatas from the coastal road in 30 minutes. Then continue through Plaka-Lemon Forest-Aliki and after half an hour you are in Metochi, where there is a parking space. From Metochi you travel across to Hydra.

From Kranidi, Porto Xeli, Kosta or Ermioni, you reach Metochi by following the coastal road towards Thermisia in 45'.

Hydra island, famous
and cosmopolitan

Hydra is one of the Saronic Islands of Greece, located in the Aegean Sea between the Saronic Gulf and the Argolic Gulf. It is separated from the Peloponnese by the narrow Hydra Gulf.

Hydra is served by high speed hydrofoils and catamarans from Piraeus plus daily island tour boats. Besides garbage trucks,motor vehicles are not permitted on the island, which leaves the bulk of public transportation up to horses, donkeys and water taxis.

The inhabited area, however, is so compact that most people walk everywhere.There is one main town, known simply as "Hydra port". It consists of a crescent-shaped harbor, around which is centered a strand of commercial establishments (restaurants, shops, markets, and galleries), all of which cater to tourists and locals. Steep stone streets lead up and outwards from the harbor area.

Most of the local residences, as well as the guest accommodation on the island are located on these streets.
